Writing Progress Report 2

by on March 14, 2011

And now it’s time for Writing Progress Reports with Michael, the part of the blog where Michael comes out and delivers a Writing Progress Report. So…what have I been writing lately?

Well, the Caitlin Chronicles are still going full-swing. I honestly do not know how it’s going to end; I don’t even know what the next episode will entail. The action’s definitely getting to that indefinable hard-to-top moment. I nearly moved myself to tears when I was working out Maralyn’s speech in Zombie Penguin Caitlin, Part Two.ย  ๐Ÿ˜› But then, it’s hard to move people to tears while at the same time writing a post about the horrible squawking of zombie penguins, and the mystical essence of Charlie Sheen. This is something I think I need to work on. I am honestly not trying to toot my own kazoo at this point, but I’m reasonably confident that I can make people laugh. But can I make them cry? Giggles are easy to call forth; just throw in a reference to a zombie penguin or a talking vengefully minded sock, and bam! Laughter. Tears, that’s something different altogether. (And let’s not even get started on romantical writing. That was one of the hardest parts of Hailfire, not the scenes where Haley blows up the tank, but the Define the Relationship Talks. I think I only had one. It involved a muffin. Long story. Buy the book to find out more!)

Now that I’ve made the Obligatory Shameless Plug (I love capitalizing things), my current novel project is also going nicely. I’m nearly at 50,000 words, which is the endpoint of NaNoWriMo and usually where I stop. But I’ve still got lots of story left, subplots popping up left and right, a space battle, the beginnings of a relationship between two main characters, and someone walking upside down.ย  So darn the torpedoes and full speed ahead. Also, would the Beatles still exist in an alternate universe where cybernetic goblins have taken over the world?

I’ll leave you to ponder that ’til next time.

Congrats on your current project. As for your question about the Beatles, I think they would exist, but they’d have very different hair.

    • Thanks; I’m glad you think they exist even with different hair, I already had Cupid singing one of their songs as he’s flying his spaceship back to Earth, and I didn’t want to switch songs. ๐Ÿ™‚
