“Lieutenant, why the tribble aren’t we moving?”
“Palsgrafic matrices , ma’am, they’re completely tri-polarized!”

“Lieutenant, I took Fleet School Engineering. Those words mean nothing. What’s the problem really? ”

“The engine broke.”

This story was written for the Trifextra weekend challenge, which was to write 33 words of dialogue. I’m really beginning to like Captain K’pid.

  1. Great twist!

  2. Cool!loved the way it ended-all education down the drain, lol!

All that jargon must have tangled up some wires in the engine (:

    • The Treknobabble ITSELF is causing the problem! I never thought of it that way before. Someone should alert Kirk. 😛

  4. Love that last line!

  5. Ahhh! I love when people call out gibberish. But I do remember the Palsgraf case from law school and one might surmise the Lieutenantt was saying that there were three different opinions as to whether a tort was committed. Great response to the prompt.

    • I remember that case from my 1L year as well. Mainly because of the explosion. Torts class was just full of explosions, incinerations, flour barrels falling from the sky…good times. Maybe the engineer is a law student. I hadn’t thought of that! 😛

  6. just use plain talk! 🙂 perfect.

  7. Love this! Very cleverly done!

  8. Ha ha! This is funny.

  9. Hahaha! Love the big words for the straightforward problem 🙂

  10. This is fantastic! What a great bit of dialog. Perfect response to the prompt.
