Treasure

by on September 6, 2013

This story was written for Trifecta’s weekend prompt. We were supposed to use “tether”, “loft”, and “crown” in a 33-word story. For some reason my muse went serious this week….

Constance’s breath quickened as she climbed. The Angelus Crown. She could leave her tiny loft, live anywhere, do anything-

Then her tether snapped.

The uncaring Crown flashed in her eyes as she fell.

  1. What a cliffhanger! Okay, that was bad, but the tension in this is great. I like to think someone will catch her. Katrina is good at escaping…maybe she’s around 🙂

  2. You leave the loft one time….

  3. i KNEW you wouldn’t take the obvious route with this one, and i love it 🙂

  4. “Then her tether snapped” was a most unexpected line. “The uncaring Crown” has so many meanings. I am sure the wearers of the crown would not care that she failed in her attempt.

Oh, I hate when that happens: possibilities opened up, then snatched away.
    Choice words, Michael!

  6. Poor Constance. I love the tension in this, and love the description of the crown as uncaring. Beautifully and tragically done.

    • Thanks; hopefully Constance will come out of it alright in the end. You never know…

  7. Ouch! Nasty end!

Don’t you just hate it when that happens.

  9. This makes me wonder how many others had the same idea as her.
Thank you for linking up. Voting is now active so don’t forget to come back!

Oh, Oh no. All that climbing….
it was really good, well written, suspenseful, interesting. 🙂

    • Thanks! Yeah, pity about all the climbing effort. At least she’s prepared for Fall. 😛
