A Matter of Taste

by on November 22, 2013

For this weekend’s Trifecta challenge, we were to pick our own word, and use it 3 times in 33 words. There’s a lot of good words out there which I’m quite fond of. Marina…kumquat…wafting…shipoopi.  But then I decided to go with one of my all-time favorite words. Enjoy!

“I will eat your spleen!” gurgled the alien.

“I need my spleen!” Sarah protested. “Here, have a waffle!  Better than spleen!”

It turned out that the alien liked waffles. Sarah was quite relieved.

  1. Mmmmm! Tasty waffles! Here’s hoping the alien doesn’t think about having spleen with waffles.

    • What does go with spleen, I wonder? I mean, I’m given to understand that liver goes with fava beans and a nice Chianti, but I haven’t heard about spleen.

  2. Haha! I’m fairly certain you’ll be the only one who chose ‘spleen’ this week 🙂 (One reason I like to see your responses: I seriously have no idea what to expect!)

Waffles! The alien must have wonderful taste 😛

  5. One of my favorites, so far. Cute and clever use of the prompt. (And I’m so glad Sara’s spleen is safe for the time being!)

  6. Besides, everyone knows the kidneys is where all the flavor really is…

  7. Like Lego my Eggo, except it’s lego my spleen…this was such a fun little read.

  8. Aha, good for Sara for saving herself with her wit. 🙂

  9. If he ever figures how to make spleen waffles, Sarah’s in trouble. 😉

  10. Good thing for her she had some waffles on hand! 🙂

  11. Who doesn’t like waffles, am I right? Never had spleen though, so who am I to compare?

  12. Delightfully goofy! Thanks for the smile. 🙂

Ha! Lucky she had a waffle on hand!

  14. I read this last night, but had to come back today and comment because yesterday I spat tea all over my computer, laughing. Thanks for linking up!

    • You know you’ve arrived as a writer when you’re the source of other people’s spit-takes. 😀 I’m very proud. I do hope your computer’s alright, of course.

  15. Spleen is such a great word – one of my all-time favourites too! But thank goodness the alien also enjoyed waffles. 😀

  16. Aww,such a sweet toothed alien:-)Loved this!

  17. Hahahahaha
I wish I were as quick on my feet aas Sara! Fortunately, I think I’m at an age where not even an alien would go for my waffles. Er, spleen.

  18. *hahaha* I laughed out loud. Just about anything is better than spleen. 🙂

  20. Your talent never ceases to amaze me.
